Mark Lee is a former NASA astronaut who was born on August 14, 1952, in Viroqua, Wisconsin, United States. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy and a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He later received a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
Lee was selected by NASA in 1984 to become an astronaut and flew on four space shuttle missions between 1990 and 1994. He spent a total of 14 days, 22 hours, and 23 minutes in space and logged over 886 hours in space. During his missions, he helped deploy the Hubble Space Telescope, conducted spacewalking operations, and performed scientific experiments.
After leaving NASA in 1995, Lee became a professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder. He also served as a director of the Integrated Teaching and Learning Program at the university. Lee is a recipient of various awards and honors, including the NASA Space Flight Medal and the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal.
